HARD FOUGHT WIN FOR LIPHAKOE

December 9, 2019

Liphakoe fc celebrated a magnificent festive game against Premiere League rookies Lifofane football club at Setsoto stadium with a first half goal being a final goal for maroon and gold.

Goal in the first half an hour from Thabo Tsutsulupa’s attack of Neo Skosana and Thabo Matsoele  gave Liphakoe much-needed breathing space on a nail-biting afternoon from a penalty spot,a captain of the day Thabo Matsoele couldn’t hesitate but smashed it pass Tsilo Tsilo who is on loan from Liphakoe. Liphakoe also had a majority of possession but it was unfortunate to not get a goal in the early first half.

Tankiso Chaba probably wasn’t expecting such a watching brief during the opening half of the match but it was his opposite side opposite number Tsilo in Lifofane’s goal who had to earn the early money saving from Thabiso Rasekoai  and Moena Moalosi crosses.

The reds of Botha-bothe looked very uneasy about Liphakoe’s pace and counter-attacking  with several long balls and the panic spread to their midfield where Ranthimo and Rammoneng were dominant.

The referee  Ms Setoko couldn’t hesitate to clear up the penalty decision but it was rightly awarded, thanks to the veteran Neo Skosana who combined well with Thabo Matso’ele who was deployed in the number 10 role, Mats’oele navigated well in Lifofane’s box and was taken down by the opponents when was about to take a shot. In the mood Matso’ele was as calm as you like as he stroked the spot-kick home.

The maroon and gold had to defend stoutly after the restart and our blocking and squeezing was immense as they frustrated the visitors. We still looked dangerous going forward and after 70th minutes when Liphakoe broke and Ranthimo’s shot went wide, Khotso Thejane’s header from a counter also went wide.

Liphakoe were pegged back apart from a couple of rare breaks but there was a dogged determination about Tsutsulupa’s side defending well with Tumahole and Khalane clearing every garbage to the defensive area despite Lifofane taking chances from the long range. However, the maroon and gold  wall was breached when a shot from Monaheng Vela hit a woodwork.

Liphakoe got a chance from Neo Skosana to seal a game who was found alone near a box and his shot went wide.

It was a tense finale but Liphakoe brilliantly, and deservedly, survived the onslaught to take the three points off the on-form Lifofane. It was an emotional moment after the game where Liphakoe won their first game of the season and moving up the log from the 13th position to the 10th position.
